Long-distance move from Strongsville, OH to Cedar Creek, TX

DON"T USE THIS COMPANY

I would like to recount the unbelievably bad experience and bad service that I had with AME. It started out well with Kyle Lavelle, whom I had 3 – 4 conversations with. We talked about the move, and about insurance - if there was a need- he didn’t think so. I was concerned about expensive dishes we had (which came out OK in the delivery).

We talked about the need to have the move done on a certain time frame. We agreed that the move from Strongville, OH to Cedar Creek, TX would start with the loading of furniture on April 1. We also agreed, that if needed, April 2 could be used as the alternate move-out day as long as the movers would finish at 2PM so that I could catch a flight around 4:30. I would be there when they loaded the truck.

All seemed to be going well. I got a call from the moving help desk that the move would take place on Sat, Apr 2, so I had to wait in the hotel I was at the extra day. I reiterated to the AME rep on the phone that the inventory and loading needed to be done in the morning and the AME rep said that was clear and was documented with the shipper.

In the morning of Apr 2, I got a call from Mark (216 258-6963) from American Knights Shipping, who said they were not able to come to perform the inventory and load my goods. I immediately emailed, called, and texted AME. Mark wanted to do the inventory and loading of goods early the next week? (Mon? Tue?...) (It was Tues when they finally loaded the truck).

I dialed Kyle Lavelle’s direct phone because I told him I would be calling him if there were problems as he agreed to that in our earlier discussions. THIS SITUATION WAS A PROBLEM. Now I was faced with staying two extra days in a hotel, and missing a family get-together that evening. In my communications with AME, I asked for emergency help (leaving a message). I had already checked out of the hotel and had to make a decision whether to check back in, but I was not giving up on getting the problem solved.

After several calls, leaving voice mails, text, and email, etc with AME, and calls back and forth with Mark from American Knights, Mark said he would come at noon. I changed my flight to accommodate a few hours later. I was able to leave my luggage at the hotel so I took a taxi to the storage place. There I waited two hours. I texted and left a phone mail for AME during that time with the concern that Mark had not shown up. I adjusted my flight again. Finally I was able to contact Mark by phone who “readjusted” his time to be 2:30pm. Not so, after a few more calls with Mark, he showed up at a little before 4pm and causing me to have to reschedule a new airline ticked in the late evening (I believe leaving at 9pm).

Mark was very regretful and apologetic to me for being so late and not being able to load anything. He came in a car to do inventory only - and then said they would pick up the shipment on Monday (?). So I would not be on hand to watch the truck being loaded. He hurriedly made out an inventory list, which was mostly unreadable, especially through the carbon copies. We also talked about the 55” Samsung TV which was lightly wrapped in a blanked in the storage unit. He assured me that he would have it wrapped properly for transport since the wrapping was inadequate.

The inventory was “completed” according to Mark, though exceedingly hurried. I did not have a chance to go over it thoroughly – it was hard to read. (The lock and key was supposed to be sent to me in Texas but I did not receive). Mark had the goods picked upon Tues morning, which is specified on one of the documents.

Upon receipt the unloaders had a clear space from the garage door into the house I was watching and saw the TV laying in the truck laying on one of its corners. It was not wrapped the way Mark said it would be. I notice the screen was busted.

I caught the last flight out that evening missing a significant family gathering- very unpleasant, full of anxiety. No opportunity to view the loading.

Therefore, I hold AME responsible.

I also hold AME responsible, because of the delay and rush, causing the TV to not be adequately prepare for travel. I was not able to be at the storage facility for loading the truck.

[some omitted due to length]

AME should compensate me for the loss of the TV ($650) and the loss due to changing flights multiple times (approx. $350) – due to the incompetence of not following the customer’s instructions and not providing service in the agreed upon time frame.

A few weeks later, I repeatedly tried to call Kyle from AME. I left phone messages, sent texts, emails, etc. I tried all the numbers he gave me. I got though a few times and someone answered and I asked for Mark; they said he was there and they would go get him – but then it was diverted to someone else or I was asked to call back. THEY COULD AT LEAST LISTEN TO MY STORY!

I should be compensated with the reimbursement of the $991.99 payment I made to AME.

Regards, Richard Breitling

Long-distance move from Strongsville, OH to Cedar Creek, TX

Ohio to TX move - AMR will not take responsibility

I used them for a move from Ohio to Texas. The sales pitch by Kyle was convincing and I he agreed if I had problems that I would call him directly. I was delayed one day on pickup, kind of routine as they went to the next "alternate" day. I was told in the morning they could not pick up my belongings from the storage area. I texted AME, called and left messages.

After begging the shipper they hired, he said he would come at 12 noon. I waited for 2 hours. He adjusted his time to 2:30, and finally got there at just before 4. This multiple "adjustments" caused me to delay a flight I had 3 times and cost me $350. When the shipper came he did so without a truck and said he would inventory everything and then ship it next week. I would not be there when loading the truck. I mention that a large screened TV needed better wrapping, and he said he would do it. So I gave the key to the storage area to him after he hurriedly filled out an inventory sheet which you can barely read.

Upon receiving the goods in Texas, I notice the TV was NOT wrapped properly and the screen was busted. If I had been there, it would have been properly wrapped but apparently the shipping rep, Mark, did not remember to wrap it.

I tried numerous time over several weeks to contact Kyle, the original contact from AME and I was always redirected or told to call back. He did not keep his word. After the sale, he was null and void.

This get my ire up when they don't keep their word. This whole move cost me a $650 TV plus another $350 of rescheduled flights. It was agreed that they would finish before my original flight took off. No schedule was met, I could not call for help, they wouldn't help me afterwards, and it cost me another $1K. People who will not follow through are also not honest.

I will escalate this issue as it is not right for people to get a chance to present their side - hidden behind legaleze. I contested the charge on my credit card, but you almost have to have a legal document and details of everything that went on.

If you venture to use this company, record every conversation, track every detail. I will be active in spreading the word about this company until they reimburse me the $1K I lost.

Official company response

First, we would like to apologize for any inconvenience that the customer may have experienced. It is never our intention for our customers to be less than satisfied with our services. We are a licensed interstate broker with the Department of Transportation (DOT) as stated in our binding estimate and on our website. We partner with carriers across the United States that are also licensed and insured to facilitate your move.

We apologize that you were not able to speak with your representative after booking and discuss the matters of your move with him directly. But to ensure that everything is handled appropriately, our customer service team is your point of contact after booking your move. You were in constant contact with them from booking to delivery. I have reviewed your file and see that our customer service team spoke with you on Saturday 4/2/22 at 10 AM when you received the information that the truck still had a delay and would not be arriving. After speaking with both you and the foreman, both parties agreed to have the foreman come and inventory the storage unit, provide the Bill of Lading, and collect the key so they have access to the unit on Monday for loading.

We are sorry to hear about your TV being broken. I do see in the notes that you had expressed to our quality assurance team that you already had a box for the TV, and that is the reason the driver did not arrive with one. All TVs have to go into boxes to be protected during the move. Unfortunately, a couple of blankets would not be enough protection due to the vibrations on the trucks, and the possibility of the load shifting during transit.

After reviewing your paperwork I see that there were no additional charges added to your estimate and everything had been loaded. We did offer compensation for the loss of your TV but in turn, you disputed the charges and we were not able to process that reimbursement. We are sorry that we couldn’t come to a happy agreement on the outcome of your move. We do appreciate your feedback whether it’s positive or negative, and the insight we need to move forward and provide a better service. And we wish you the best in your new destination.

Long-distance move from Racine, OH to Eagle Lake, FL

I will recommend to all of my friends.

Even though I loved living in New Jersey, I was looking forward to moving back to Ohio to be near my family. I thought I had a mover lined up and ready to go. Unfortunately, when I called to confirm, the mover had no notice of my reservation. That’s when American Moving Experts came to the rescue. They were able to meet my timeline for moving on short notice at a very competitive price of $2500. Not only were their employees very professional and careful with all of my belongings, but they also worked quickly and my move went off without a hitch. American Moving Experts is definitely a company I would use again and I will recommend to all of my friends.

Thank you for the positive feedback about your experience Gary. About 25% of our movers are service failure's of other companies, it's good to always have a plan B. We are very happy with the outcome of your move as well, and we were happy to help get you back home.

American Moving Experts is best!!!

This was an enjoyable experience although moving usually is anything but enjoyable! From my initial contact until the finish, I was nothing but pleased. The estimator was prompt and actually interested in my move; the scheduler was so in tune with my needs; and, the personnel who did the job were polite, clean, knowledgeable, prompt, and thorough. What a great company! I am going to share their name with anyone who is interested in moving without all of the fuss and fear. American Moving Experts is my go to and thanks to Google for sending me to them!

THANK YOU American moving experts!

We considered all our options when selecting who to move with. We have a toddler and lots of stuff, and we were moving during a very hectic period in our lives where we could not handle one extra ounce of stress. Detail and attentiveness from the very first day, communication throughout, and a kind, caring and fast moving team on the day of! I cannot say enough good things about the moving team - they worked efficiently, interacted with our family members, provided direction and advice, and were an absolutely delightful addition to the moving team. Our final invoice came out to be less than our original quote, and nothing was damaged or even dinged throughout the entire day. THANK YOU American moving experts!

Hi Todd, thank you for the positive feedback about your experience. And the foreman did express that one of your kids might have found a new dream job when they grow up. And we would be happy to have them as a team member, when they are old enough that is. We hope you really enjoy your new destination.

Two no call no shows TWICE right before holiday

Quick snapshot. Pickup window 28th-30th. Team no call no showed on the 29th, couldn't come the 30th due to truck problems and then no call no shows again today after promising if I waited an extra day (technically it's two additional days) with a meager discount, I would have no problems. It's the 4th of July weekend, I'm in a new house with 3 kids and nothing in it. Young lady from customer service had an attitude. That was great. This company has my money and I don't have my property. That's crazy.

Move size: 4 Bedroom Home Service cost: $3600

Official company response

First, we would like to apologize for any inconvenience that the customer may have experienced. It is never our intention for our customers to be less than satisfied with our services. It does state in our binding estimate that pick-up and delivery dates are not guaranteed and we do try really hard to accommodate the requested window, unfortunately it was a holiday week and the beginning of the month which is a very busy time in our industry. We were in contact with you the entire time trying to coordinate a new pick up time. Because of the inconvenience, we offered you a complimentary refund for the inconvenience on 7/1, and one day after signing our confidentiality agreement you in turn posted this review.

The carrier did arrive on 7/3/21 to pick up your belongings. So with pick up happening on 7/3 there would have been no delivery till after your first available delivery date (FADD) 7/4 which is a holiday. The FADD is not the day that your belongings are delivered but when they begin the delivery process.

We are requesting that you in turn live up to your part of the confidentiality agreement as well. You were refunded and had a receipt sent to you on 7/6/21. Sincerely

Long-distance move from Berthoud, CO to San Antonio, TX

It's been 2 weeks and we still don't have our stuff!

This has been a nightmare experience for my family. We hired American Moving Experts to help us with a move from Colorado to Texas. They quoted us far less than the other companies we got quotes from (should have been a HUGE red flag) but they said that it was because they were delivering a military family's stuff to the area and we were backfilling the truck. I did not realize that they aren't the actual people who will be moving our stuff but contract the job out to a 3rd party moving company. When the movers actually showed up to our house, American Moving Experts apparently had not communicated with them that they were supposed to pack our house (a service we paid for as well). In addition, American Moving Experts incorrectly quoted our move. The movers said we owed an additional $2,800 to cover the extra cubic footage (which they demand all UPFRONT before they would pack our things), OH and because American Moving Experts incorrectly estimated how much we had (this is after TWO extensive phone calls going over the belongings we needed moved and how big they were), the movers said they DIDN'T have room for all of our stuff and that they couldn't pack it all. They brought a 26 foot truck! We tried repeatedly that day to get someone on the phone at American Moving Experts to try to explain the discrepancy (this was a Friday afternoon) but had to leave message after message with no return phone calls. We finally heard from someone named Maggie, who called my husband. She said that we had too much stuff and tried to lay the blame at our feet. Finally, she said that she would work with us to try to reduce how much we owed because of their mistake. She gave my husband a phone number to call to work out the final billing (which turned out to be her personal cell - how were we supposed to know...she gave it to us!) which he did almost every day the next week with no response from her. She finally responded to my husband a week later that he need to stop calling the number SHE GAVE HIM, because it was her personal cell number. After not hearing from anyone for two weeks (Yes, we STILL do not have our belongings), I finally called their customer service line and spoke with someone named Brooke who said she would call the dispatch to see what the ETA of our belongs was. She was very nice, but after telling me she would call me back she didn't. I waited another day and then called her again. I spoke to her again and she apologized for not calling and said that our stuff was on a truck but they were waiting for the driver and that it would be ANOTHER week before it got here but I should get a phone call sometime next week confirming the date. I also asked her to give me a final total of what we owed the movers so we were not caught off guard when they did show up. She said she would call Friday with the final bill of lading...but I never heard from her. At this point I am not confident that we will actually get our belongings and am considering hiring a lawyer to help us.

Move size: 4 Bedroom Home Service cost: $8400

Official company response

First, we would like to apologize for any inconvenience that the customer may have experienced. It is never our intention for our customers to be less than satisfied with our services. We are a licensed and bonded Moving Broker as it is stated on our website and binding estimate. Our estimates are based on the inventory you provide to our representatives, and we also give you a chance to revise your inventory closer to pick up.

I understand that with the inventory that you provided our representatives and quality assurance (QA) team brought your estimated cubic space to 1152 CF. But at the time of pick up the driver presented you with a revised estimate based on the visual estimate of the belongings that needed to be loaded on the truck. That brought your total space reservation to 2000 cf. but you were not interested in paying for the additional space. You then settled for a full 26ft box truck which theirs was 1750cf. Also the full packing that was on the inventory would have increased in price as well due to the additional cubic space needed on the truck. Full packing service is offered at $1 per cubic foot, and based on the total cubic space needed on the truck. Nobody did that intentionally, we built the estimate based on the information that you provided our representative at booking, and then during your quality assurance call.

I see that you were in constant contact with our customer service department, but on the day of pick up you called our quality assurance manager instead of our 844 number. Our QA manager reached out to customer service, and let them know that you were looking for help during your pick up. And the manager reached back out to your husband. I’m sorry that she snapped at you after your husband called and texted her everyday... But like you stated, you called into our customer service line and you spoke with Brooke, and asked for an update for delivery. That is why we provide that number and the customer support email as well during your verification call, pick up call, verification email, and your pick up email as well.

I understand that delivery was a big factor that came into play. You were picked up on July 23,2021 and delivered on August 19,2021. You provided a First Available Delivery Date (FADD) of July 27,2021, which means that is when they begin coordinating that delivery, because you couldn’t accept delivery till after that date. The last thing that a driver wants to do is arrive before you can accept everything, because then you would be charged a storage fee and re-delivery fee. We don’t guarantee delivery because there are so many factors that come into play while the drivers are on the road. In our estimate it does state that the estimated delivery window can take up to 30 business days, unless you purchase the premium guarantee service (PGS) for delivery.

Again we apologize for the inconvenience you encountered during your move. But again this was a binding estimate, and everything was based on how much space your belongings take up on board the truck. We would still like to process your refund, however at this time you did sign a confidentiality agreement with us to receive that refund. Please reach out to us and we can move forward with the process.

Thank you
American Moving Experts

Long-distance move from San Diego, CA to Pioneer, LA

Terrible service

Our first pickup date was August 2nd. The driver didn't have current registration on his vehicle and was denied entry to the military base. On August 3rd we waited all day to be told that the truck was full and this carrier could no longer service our move. Finally, movers made it onto base the 7th. They then quoted us $2,000 over our original price and told us they did not go by weight. We are required to have weight tickets for the military. The quoted amount is also far over the amount the military will allow. This has been a stressful and complicated ordeal for us. We are feeling taken advantage of and now have to find other means of transportation for our belongings. The deposit not being refunded is also an issue considering the cancelation would never have happened if the services we paid the deposit for had been rendered.

Move size: 2 Bedroom Home Service cost: $3586

Official company response

HI Suezanna, we would like to apologize for any inconvenience that you may have experienced. It is never our intention for our customers to be less than satisfied with our services. I looked over your file and saw that the first carrier was not able to assist with the pick up on 8/2. At that time you never reached out to us and we did not know that they hadn’t picked you up. Not your fault, but then the driver contacted us and let us know that they could not service the job. However with the state of California being so busy with people leaving the state, we did our best to find a resolution.

When the second company arrived there were additional items, packing and accessorial fees that needed to be addressed. The estimate is all based on the inventory that you provide our representatives at the time of booking and during your Quality Assurance call. We use a system that is designed to calculate the total cubic space needed on the truck, but if you do not provide every item that needs to be loaded, then the space reservation is incorrect. And the stairs fee is stated in our estimate as well, under accessorial fees, which states the first flight of stairs is included, but each additional flight is $75 per flight.

However, at that time your husband turned the driver away which is considered a refusal of service, which means that you forfeit your deposit. We would have been more than happy to send another driver out to your location, but he did not want that. I see that customer service has been working with you to get this situation resolved, by offering a refund of the remaining deposit we have left. As you can imagine most of your deposit was exhausted trying to service your move. Our job is to build your estimate based on the inventory that you provide, and provide a licensed and insured carrier, and provide customer service support during the course of your move. Based on the facts in your file we have gone above and beyond to try and assist you with this move. If you need any further assistance please feel free to contact customer service directly.
